The Upside Of Unrequited
by Becky Albertalli
I enjoyed this book. I did. After reading and loving Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda I was looking forward to reading this book by the same author. I read the blurb and I thought it would be funny, cute and relatable. And it was in many ways, with diverse characters of multiple sexualities and backgrounds. However, the story just failed to...grip me? I wasn't pulled into the story and I wasn't compelled to sit and read the whole book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. It was a good story, but even though the characters were incredibly diverse I found most of them very annoying and they didn't have much depth. But this story did have it's cute and funny moments and that's what saved the book for me - that and I relate to Molly as I, too, have never had a boyfriend, never been kissed but have had an extensive list of crushes.
