William Woolfe works in the lost letter department of Royal Mail and is estranged from his wife ,when he starts to find letters addressed simply to “My Great Love”. Thus starts two impossible journeys one will lead him back to his lost love and the other to a new one.

Written from the perspective of both William and his Wife, this is a tale of new opportunities versus past regrets. Both spouses must choose the life they most want to lead and the love they most want to have.

It is also a homage to the power of the written word and the lost beauty of letter writing. The investigations William undertakes to get lost letters back to their intended recipients are heart warming.

The novel is also full of the joys of city living in London and Dublin (incidentally when the travel bans are life I am so going back to Shoreditch!). And shouts Helen Cullens approval of the Bohemiam Lifestyle and roads less travelled by some of its subsidiary characters.

Overall quirky, charming, maybe a little obvious in its ending but in a good way.

Not a typical Maria read but one she enjoyed all the same.
