The Death of Mrs. Westaway
by Ruth Ware
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars, but more closer to that 5 Star.
The Death of Mrs. Westaway was a slow building mystery/thriller.
Hal receives a letter stating that her grandmother died and she is to receive a legacy left by her grandmother, however her grandmother died over 20 years ago. Yet, Hal decides to go to the funeral and the home because she is in real need of money since a loan shark and his cronies are after Hal. Once Hal arrives to Mrs. Westaway’s home, Hal finds out her name and address were distinctly put into the will. How could that be mistaken?
As Hal learns about the family and the missing sister, she finds there is a connection from her family to this family. She investigates more into how this may or may not be a mix up and more about Maud, the sister that went missing and about her own mother, Maggie.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Death of Mrs. Westaway. I could not put it down and wanted to know more about the family, the things Hal found, and the true mystery of Maud, Hal, and the will. After finishing the novel before bed and waking up this morning, I decided I did not want to give it a true five stars, but to give 4.5 Stars. The reason for this is because I feel like the ending is not tied up all the way. Don’t get me wrong, it had a satisfying ending, but I do wish something’s were tied up well or acknowledged. There were mentions of something’s that have happened to characters and past events that transpired in the book that occurred, however they were not fully addressed or answered. So, I wish those few things were taken care of. But, overall this was an amazing story and my first Ruth Ware novel. I cannot wait to read more from Ruth Ware in the future.
