I'm happy to confirm that D ominique Valente has done it again. I loved every moment of this book. It is atmospheric, charming, whimsical and engrossing.

As with the previous books, the characters are great, including Twist and Peg, who are both new; and also just as with the previous books, Oswin the kobold steals every scene he appears in.

Valente's writing is so visual, and again it is perfectly complemented by the illustrations by Sarah Warburton, which are frequent throughout the novel. The naked/hidden hardcover for book 3 is easily the best yet (and all of them have been gorgeous).

The audiobook was generally great to listen to, with excellent narration by Tuppence Middleton (I love how she voices Oswin). I did however notice quite a number of cases where the audiobook did not match the text in the physical book. Perhaps the audiobook was done from an earlier draft of the novel?

To anyone who enjoys reading feel-good middle grade fantasy novels - honestly, put Starfell at the top of your wishlist. I don't think you'll regret it.
