Westwood Monster Patrol by Andrea Beatriz Arango
5.0

This book ticked a lot of boxes for me. It was a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure with a group of kids facing off with a terrifying monster threatening their turf. I loved spending time with these characters and felt like I got to know each of their very different personalities. It was also very refreshing to spend time with characters that I don’t see represented very much in this genre; some are bilingual Spanish-speakers, some are homeless or in foster care and some are dealing with mental health issues. Despite their difficult situations and differences they manage to pull it together and work as a team. I was strangely proud of them by the end and just want them all to be happy.

I am excited to read more stories that take place in Westwood and to see how these kids face more supernatural foes. If you or a teen you know is a Scooby Doo or Stranger Things fan and want to see a diverse cast of characters solving mysteries and fighting monsters then this is definitely something you want to check out!

Full Disclosure: I am a friend of the author and I drew the map the appears in the book. Don’t sleep on it though!
