On the Come Up
by Angie Thomas
This is one book I was very eager to read, having heard such great things about it! It's safe to say that I really liked it, even though I didn't really like the main character, Bri, all that much.
I found the premise very interesting and eye opening to say the least, about the experiences of black people in present day America. The main reason I didn't like Bri is that I found her a bit too obnoxious and reckless for my liking, but my two favourite characters ever have to be Jay (Bri's mum) and Trey (her older brother.)
Overall, it's a book I really enjoyed and I'm definitely going to check out Thomas' other works!
