Attack on Titan, Volume 1 by Hajime Isayama
4.0

I told myself a long time not to read the manga of this. Why? The anime is done so well, the fights so amazing, I didn't think the manga could live up to it. Was I right? Kind of.

So if you don't know attack on titan (Come on now) it's about these giant naked people running around eating humanity till we're almost completely wiped out. So we decide to defend ourselves, build a giant wall (Hi Trump) and try to fight back. They create this gear that makes them zip around like spider-man and blades to cut the back of the neck of a titan to kill it. Seems easy right? Well obviously not cause these titans are quick, dangerous, and will fucking eat you in a 2nd. Think Zombies, but faster, and the size of Godzilla.

Good: Loved how fast paced this volume is. Just like the start of the anime you get to know the characters just enough to get ready for all hell to break loose. The fights are brutal, the deaths are high, and the darkness overtakes your hope a lot. Also the art is actually pretty solid and the designs are really great.

Bad: There's the fights, which are fun, but like I expected don't blow me away like the anime. Also, some of the characters introduced are so annoying (but they change later) but I could see why I didn't like some at the start.

Attack on Titan is a great series. It's dark, it's action packed, people die quickly, and everyone feels like they could die at any moment. It makes it highly entertaining. Where this volume ends is what hooked me to the anime. Check this out if you haven't yet. A 4 out of 5.
