I wanted an easy, light read for the summer break that I didn’t have to put too much thought into, and this delivered.

However as far as romance novels go, this was seriously lacking imo.

I kept waiting for the tension to ramp up, for there to be obstacles to overcome, or at least like, some legitimate build up of chemistry between January and Gus but it never came.

Gus felt very 2 dimensional. There were vague snippets throughout about his troubled past but I felt his actions didn’t align with the character arc.

January was pretty whiny and annoying and the only obstacles came from her being dramatic and catastrophising perfectly normal situations that reeks of anxious attachment issues.

Overall, it was just ok.

Definitely not deserving of the overwhelmingly high ratings as I don’t think it compares to some of the better rom coms we’ve seen recently like Red, White and Royal Blue or The Spanish Love Deception etc.
