Not Good for Maidens
by Tori Bovalino
“Come by, come by, come buy, come buy” - come to the magical goblin market... come to Scarborough fair... where magic lies, where humans die, and where goblins reside. Told through two perspectives: 18 years ago by May and present day by Lou. May is Lou’s aunt who has a dark and tragic past related to the goblin market and when Lou’s best friend is kidnapped into the market it is up to Lou to uncover her family’s secrets related to the market if she wants to save her teenage aunt Neela. May’s POV revolves around her time when she first went into the market... and when she fell in love with a dangerous goblin.. and the consequences of this love. Lou only has three days to survive the market. and with goblins trying to kill her and her lack of fighting skills and magic, she’ll have to use her wit and her courage to make it out alive. This is a story about forbidden love, about family love, and about the risks we are willing to take for those we care about. I loved getting to read about May’s past and her romance, it was just wonderfully done, and I’m a sucker for forbidden romance/ enemies to lovers. The familial relationship between Lou and her aunts and her mother was sweet, they all wanted to protect each other and do whatever was necessary to save each other. Overall, I had a wonderful time reading this book and would definitely recommend it!
