Shout out to Ray Porter and Ray Porter only for saving this one for me. Okay, and maybe Rocky.

Would have easily DNFd without the audiobook, but I’m mystified at all of the 5 star reviews. 

I was prepared to suspend disbelief, but apparently 2023 me is not ready to completely suspend it. 

For a man with a PhD, Ryland Grace is a corny idiot and the ending? No, throw it in the airlock. 

This was entirely too long and the writing felt like it was written by one of Ryland’s 8th graders. All of the human characters had zero dimension and those from other countries were written following stereotypes on their cultures. Additionally, the making light of heroin overdose and alcoholism was ridiculous. I understand why those were used, but don't think they were needed. Could've picked anything else. 

I did like Rocky and the space algae. Cool concepts.  

I will now await all of my friends who love this one that will surely be picking up pitch forks and torches to come my way. 

Haven’t read The Martian or Artemis, but I think I can safely mark those off my maybe read in the future list.

Glad I finally read it so I can get it off my shelf.
