The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
5.0

Scarlett Wright and her sister and best friend, Constance, serve as British Women’s Auxiliary Air Force Officers, doing what they can to protect their country. Jameson Stanton, an American 71st Expeditionary pilot with the Royal Air Force, hopes to keep the war away from his home back in Colorado. When Jameson encounters the sisters on the road outside the base one day, his world instantly shifts and begins to revolve around Scarlett. A whirlwind romance becomes a soul deep. Each day could be their last and they love each other fiercely through every patrol flight and bomb raid.

Nearly 8 decades later, Scarlett Stanton’s great granddaughter, Georgia Stanton moves back to Colorado after her loveless marriage comes to an end. While she lives in her Gran’s house, she still mourn’s the recent loss of Scarlett, the woman who loved her and raised her. During Scarlett’s long life she experienced an epic love but had also known tragic heartbreak. As a highly successful romance author, it was always the epic love that her characters found, that is until Georgia finds Scarlett’s half written manuscript telling her love story with Jameson. Never wanting to share the manuscript with anyone, Scarlett is taken aback when she realizes her estranged mother has signed on author Noah Morelli to finish Scarlett’s manuscript. Noah, known for his poignant endings, feels strongly that Scarlett and Jameson deserve a happy ending in the novel, while Georgia thinks he should stick to what he knows, writing tragedy. As Noah and Georgia dig deeper into Scarlett and Jameson’s love story, their own love story begins to unfold.

This story was magical, heart wrenching, and everything in between. This was my favorite book of the year so far, and definitely will stick with me for a long time. I absolutely adored it. Talk about a poignant AND happy ending!
