Deadline by John Sandford
4.0

I hoped I was in for a treat with John Sanford’s latest Detective Virgil Flowers novel and Sanford delivered for the 8th time in fine fashion. Most know of Sanford’s long running 24 “Prey” novels featuring Lucas Davenport of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. His Virgil Flowers spinoff stands well on its own. Affectionately called “that F’n Flowers” by his colleagues, he starts off with what appears to be a minor sidebar investigation of dognapping in a small town that turns into a multifaceted investigation of murder and mayhem. Sanford laces fine wit and humor throughout and you will find yourself chuckling and laughing out loud with characters like Johnson Johnson, named of course for a boat outboard motor. A treat for Sanford fans old and new.
