At its core, this book is absolutely heartbreaking. It's inspired by the story of Nannerl Mozart, Wolfgang Mozart's older sister who was just as talented at composing. But because she's a woman, she's not allowed to compose, or to follow her dreams. Lu re-imagines a childhood story the two had as a magical world, one that might give Nannerl everything she wanted.

Throughout the book, you can feel Nannerl's longing to be just as recognized as her brother for her music but knowing that it will never happen. The beauty of this book is in the emotions that it conveys. Lu plants you squarely in Nannerl's mind and you desperately want her to be able to chase her dreams. Ugh! What a beautiful book.
