We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra
5.0

This book was incredibly beautiful. Told through letters back and forth, we get to see how these two teens lives are both affected by parental situations, classmates, siblings, and of course, each other.

Through the course of this book, many topics are dealt with. We see physical abuse, drug abuse, bullying, homophobia, and more. Each letter was so masterfully written and you could hear each boy's voice reaching up off of the page.

I love the connection they shared through their letters, how neither really knew the other before the correspondence, but still they ended up being so vitally important to each other. What a great writing assignment that teacher came up with. I wish it had been done in my school, or in my kids' high school now.

I found this book to be heartbreaking, beautiful, redeeming, and eloquent and I think readers of any contemporary fiction will enjoy and connect with this book.
