I really wanted to like this book more. The title and cover really drew me in and the concept was really interesting. But the execution didn’t work for me. I was confused about how much time had passed between some of the chapters. I wish they had explained the magic and the deals more. I don’t think there was any character growth and I don’t understand why the stuff with her dad was included. The big thing was Laurences “best friend”. I didn’t believe they were best friends at all. She kept saying she was her “best friend” but I didn’t see it, Laurence always seemed so critical of her that I could easily believe she actually hated her. I liked the found family and the stuff about ballet but that’s about it.
Graphic: Blood, Murder
Moderate: Self harm, Torture
It’s not really self harm so much as she needs to offer blood to the demon so she cuts herself.
