Hamlet was such a fun time to read. Out of the 14 books I had to read for school this term this was definitely the most fun to study. I adored all my lectures and the essay I wrote for this book was easily my best literary analysis. The classic tale of the murder-shy Prince of Denmark definitely lived up to the hype and the gravitas and drama dripping from every page was scrumptious. This play is moody, dark, and dramatic. I adored the abundance of tragic tortured characters and long-winded monologues.
While liked reading this play what really took the story to new heights was watching various adaptations of the play alongside reading the text. There was something so illuminating about seeing words come to life from the page and analyzing specific choices made by actors and directors. While I haven't read much Shakespeare I feel fairly confident his work is best consumed through performance rather than just reading because the visuals and performances truly make the story. Hamlet has easily become one of my favourite Shakespeare works and studying it was so much fun.
