kater07 's review for:
Vintage: Volume One
by Lisa Suzanne
I received this book during a contest that required an honest review of the book upon completion.
Vintage was an easy read. It has suspense and drama. There's a decent love story, but it's frustrating to not really get to know the characters. They're not only keeping secrets from each other but from the reader as well. I feel like more of CC's secrets could have been given to us, since she's telling the story.
I realize this is a New Adult book, so I should give CC some credit for her age, but geez, she's so immature sometimes. Now and then I felt like I was reading a YA novel instead. For a character who is supposed to revel in her independence, she sure is petulant at times.
I found it interesting the timeline Lisa Suzanne took with the intimate relationship in the book. It felt a bit backward at first, but it was nice to have that unpredictable difference. So many romance novels take the same route from A to Z. This was a refreshing change.
The book moves quickly enough. I've been bouncing between books for a few months, unable to finish any of the ones I've begun. Once I had time to sit and read, I was able to get into Vintage (by chapter 3), and I really didn't want to put it down.
I'll read the next one, too.
I'm giving it 3 stars because it's a suspense-romance without delving into deeper levels of knowledge or pushing me to learn something new. If there was more depth to history of the rock scene, the emotional toll of being on the road, the process of being security, or I could really feel the history of Vintage (the store and it's contents) itself, I might have given it a 4.
