Ella Mae is finally going to get some new shoes, but she can't even try them on! So she and her cousin come up with a plan to allow anyone to try shoes in their store. I think this story illustrates part of our history (Jim Crow laws) in a way that will be easy for kids to understand (well, why can't everyone try on shoes? Seems simple enough to me!) An excellent choice for library collections.
