This was a great book and I'm excited that it's the first in a series! A series that the author takes so seriously, she's released a cover of a song and a website and other social medias for the fictional band from the book! Nia (full name Antonia) grew up first following her touring musician mom around and then got dumped to live with her deadbeat dad as a teenager. There, she met Sebastian, who became her best friend and music partner and they made plans to escape their tiny town together once she graduated the year after him. But, Seb left suddenly one night and they haven't seen each other in 8 years. Now going by Toni, she lives in Philly and works as a session musician, but hasn't gone far in her career because the rock music industry is a boys' club and she's never been as interested in the fame. Suddenly, she gets tapped to fill in for the guitarist of an up and coming indie rock girl band, The Lillys, while their usual girl is sorting out her drug and behavior problems. Surprise surprise, Seb is their manager. I loved the musicality woven into this book--Axelrod is a musician herself and you can always tell when someone including music in a story knows what they're talking about.
