dermkat 's review for:
Act Your Age, Eve Brown
by Talia Hibbert
I loved this book! I enjoyed the first two books in the trilogy about the Brown Sisters well enough for someone who's go to genres do not include contemp romance. However, this one was excellent and I powered through it! I read just under half at lunch on my break and then finished it before bed. Eve is the youngest of the three sisters and feels like a failure compared to the other two. She has switched through different university courses and career paths, never sticking with something, so her parents say she needs to move out and hold a job for a year before they start letting her access her trust fund again. She goes for an angry drive and ends up in a small town in the Lakes District and randomly walks into an interview for chef at a Bed and Breakfast. The B&B owner is Jacob, who is near her own age and is very particular about what he expects in an employee. He discloses that he has Autism and asks her to leave but then when his friend gets him to give her a second shot (because they're out of options), she accidentally backs into him with her car. Feeling bad, she decides to stay to help while he is healing and, at first, they drive each other nuts with their quirks. I loved their banter and chemistry and, as with last time, Hibbert's writing was easy to read and get sucked into. I really appreciate her drive to write diverse, inclusive fiction. Warning to those who don't like sexy times in their books: a bit of smut. I would definitely consider reading this one again even if I didn't read the other two, which is fine because the three books can be read as standalones. That said, I think at some point I do want to read to all three again but this time listen to the audio versions.
Reread: Frik, I love this book! As happens every time I read this series, I have claimed the previous one as my favorite and then I get to the next one and it claims the spot. So I've decided I won't choose. The Brown Sisters trilogy as a whole is my favorite. Evie and Jacob learning to work and exist together after a rough start brings out the best in each other while also accepting what others may consider their worst. Evie is a fucking delight, Jacob is an absolute sweetheart in grump clothing. The autism rep is well done, from what I've learned from others. I just love this book!
