The Bride Test
by Helen Hoang
This was a fun listen in the car on a long drive. There are things I don’t agree with, such as seeking a bride for your son, or arranged marriages. However, I know they happen, and that they can even have a nice side such as with this book. Kahi has never dated and plans to never marry as he is blank on the inside. No ability to feel. He lives in California and has a very pushy, but loving mom. Esme lives in Vietnam where she has a daughter and spends her days cleaning toilets. It is only for her daughter that she agrees to a crazy scheme to spend the summer in the US and test her ability to be the perfect wife to Khai. This book is funny, sweet, and endearing. It is your typical romance novel with bends not normally seen. Esme speaks very little english, but doesn’t let that stop her. Khai is on the autism spectrum, and while it may take a few lessons and finding new ways to talk to and about himself, he to is learning. Over all this was a fun romp. I cant wait till the next one.
