City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
5.0

I originally started this (in audio) Sep2022 and had to DNF. The narration was terrible (my review from then is at the bottom of this review). Decided to go ahead and read, with my eyes ;) This was a long book, and I don't have nearly as much "eye" time as "ear" time, so it took a while. Very glad I did though, as it wrapped up this series and wrapped it up well. Reading myself, I found myself highlighting several items - profound thoughts to humorous interactions.  I do feel this probably IS a 5* read for anyone who stuck with the series through the six books.

Ironically, glancing at The Library Extension, the audiobook seems to be easily available at the library, whereas I had to wait a bit for the kindle copy ... perhaps I'm not alone in being appalled at the audio.

**** Notes at Sept2022 Audio Attempt.

Attempted the audiobook (August2022) and no ... could NOT handle the narration. Will have to read this myself if I'm to finish the series, and I'm not sure I'm motivated enough. I'm already fuzzy on the what has been happening so far, not sure I remember enough.

Just like one of the narrators a couple books ago ... there is a British accent, WHY? This is taking place in America, the characters are American, their conversations are "American" in accent. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE English and other accents, but there has to be a reason for it! In the 4th book in the series, the male narrator had an English accent for some unknown reason (Simon's POV, Simon is absolutely American). It was awful, but I pushed through. I also struggled with the female narration in the majority of the books. It kept switching, I think three (now four) different female narrators! Totally different pronunciation of some names.

I remember really loving the first three books in the series, back when I READ them originally. As I went back and listened to the audio, and then moved forward to books 4-6 ... All the audio is just making me have negative feelings toward the series as a whole. WHO was in charge of making decisions about the audio? They ruined this series!
