Sheltered Volume 2
by Ed Brisson
Damn this volume really stepped up.
I enjoyed the first volume but here's where we get the tension building. So last we saw adults arriving at the save haven. We step back a few days prior to them arriving to get a little bit more background. Then we fast forward to the moment at the end of volume 1 and all hell breaks loose. This volume is really focused on two main characters and the distance they will go to survive and by the end you're left with a sinking feeling this is all going to go to shit.
Good: The nail-biting pace is perfect in this. People getting killed not just for the sake of shocking deaths but you actually FEEL pity and sadness. The dialog is great and every character has their own distinct voice in the volume. The ending builds and builds to a truly fucked up and sad ending that nailed me on a emotional level.
Bad: The art is still not great for me, and some faces are laughable.
Overall this was fantastic read. When I started I couldn't put it down till I was done. If you're going to do a story about survival just give me the feeling of loss and being scared, this does it well. A 4 out of 5.
