This was a short story but very powerful nonetheless. I shed some tears by the end of it because sometimes, it's hard to imagine what it feels like to be on the other side, to be the ones seeking refuge in a peaceful country. When you live in peace, away from war, it is hard to grasp how desperate you can be to get away from it, so desperate that even the large sea doesn't scare you more than the war does. It is desperate and scary but it is better than staying and with its 48 pages, Hosseini's book was able to make me realize all of this.
