The Falling in Love Montage
by Ciara Smyth
Editing my review after thinking about this book a bit more: I was fine with the storyline itself, yeah, Saiorse was in my eyes a bit immature and there was not much chemistry between her and Ruby, but it wasn't that bad. But there was something bugging me and lo and behold, it was the way how queerphobic (and especially aphobic) this story was... The comment about the ad for period products (and that boys don't get them), insisting that without sex, two women are just friends (like, really?), . And the phrase "lesbians and bi girls" to describe the MC's dating preferences felt really like the author was afraid to just say "queer" or really acknowledge that there are other sexualities... The way everything was so incredibly cisnormative and allonormative made me feel weird, and that's not something I want to experience when reading a book that's supposed to be a funny rom-com.
The fact that they broke up at the end while it's marketed as a rom-com is another story...
