Brown Girl Dreaming
by Jacqueline Woodson
This book was lovely and I definitely recommend the audio! Better yet, listen to the audio and follow along with the print copy if you can. This is how I experienced this book and I don't regret it.
It's a free verse biographical telling of Jacqueline's younger years. I don't read books in verse, or books of poetry ever but I was inspired by Anne Bogel to pick this one up.
This book is sad and honest, yet hopeful. Like many who make it as authors, Jacqueline grew up with a love of writing. She also grew up in South Caroline, and then later came of age in Brooklyn. Both experiences of growing up are unique and it's insightful to hear Jacqueline share her own and her family's experiences.
This was my first Jacqueline Woodson book but it won't be my last!
