I'll Be Gone in the Dark
by Michelle McNamara
“And then, after May 4, 1986, you disappear. Some think you died. Or went to prison. Not me.”
Wow. Michelle’s deep research into the then-unknown identity of the Golden State Killer is incredible. Even if her research didn’t directly contribute to the recent arrest of that piece of shit, her dedication was helpful in keeping the stories of these victims and what happened to them in the public conscious, and that definitely counts for something. It is chilling and terrifying what this monster did. It is infuriating that this motherfucker got to live his life roaming free, having a family, retiring, after having negatively affected so many people’s lives. It is of little solace to me knowing that Michelle would appreciate his capture, but at least it’s something of a symbolic “happy ending” for this book. I’m glad they caught this monster in a skin suit, even if it’s 30 years too late.
