Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded
by Hannah Hart
It takes a lot of courage to air your dirty laundry in the public eye, particularly if people use words like "rolemodel" to describe you in your daily life. The temptation to seem stainless and stable is probably overwhelming to a lot of famous people. Hart could have gone the way of so many famous biographies (light hearted, funny, making jokes about making it in the business) or focused on her career as a YouTuber and author. But rather than go into a lot of detail on that and rather than playing off her childhood trauma for laughs, Hart decides that the best course of action is to use her platform and status to address mental health issues in the US. She does so with grace and class. Her story is heart breaking at times but filled with the courage that only comes from refusing to give in to the terror all around you. Hart could have kept much of what she shares from the public eye and in doing so would have neglected a larg portion of it, namely the portion that has various forms of mental health issues. But making these issues the core of her work and by being public and honest about her struggles with them, Hart gives a new face to issues from ADHD, self arm, and parental neglect. I cannot recommend this book strongly enough. Even if you are not already a fan of her work, which you should be because she's incredible, you should still check out this book. It has a lot of good things to say and says them in ways that are approachable. Read it! Give it to a friend who might need it! Share it with the world.
