The Walking Dead Book 4
by Robert Kirkman
This is a brutal volume so be prepared.
With Rick now back at the prison they all are ready to regroup and figure out their next step. The first half is actually a bit more on how to function as a group once more and be decent people to each other. A lot of it works, and even some funny moments throughout. The second half is insane chaos as the Governor makes his move to take the prison that Rick and his people worked so hard for and it is now a mini-war.
Brutal in exactions, this takes out serval key characters. I always admired Walking Dead for killing characters off so quickly and in surprising ways. It never feels like shock value, and the story reminds you how close to death they always are, so when they do die it is more "Damn it" than NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Which is a huge plus. The art remains strong and gets better as the series progresses. The final few pages are horrifying and brutal to watch and end this current arc on a super high note.
A 4.5 out of 5.
