I really enjoyed Bloom and read it in a single sitting as I could not put it down. It is a book with a message but one that is delivered in a quirky, basically bizarre plot line that only a kids book could get away with. The writing is great - I definitely want to read more by Nicola Skinner - and the characters are both loveable and layered.
There was one quarantine-related moment that made me cringe a bit, but as this was published back in 2019 I have to forgive that!
The book is full of illustrations by the talented Flavia Sorrentino, and I can see that there is also an illustrated hidden cover, though as I have been reading a library book I can't remove the dustjacket so it will have to remain hidden to me until I manage to get my own copy!
Fun, definitely original and highly entertaining.
