Hardwired
by Walter Jon Williams
This book is very much a product of its times insofar as how it approaches its LGBT characters, but the plot is very fun, it's a very down to earth (no pun intended) take on dystopia and cyberpunk, and it really makes it feel like it's a future not too far beyond our own.
The worldbuilding is very clever, sprinkled in here and there through headlines and advertisements and off-hand remarks from the main characters. It never goes too heavy on the exposition, nor does it leave the reader feeling like they're out of the loop.
