Ben was such a self centered prick honestly. He took advantage of a situation he shouldn’t have and Billy and Scarlet are the ones that really suffered for it. I understand that Claire was cheating on Ben for a large portion of their marriage, but the circumstances make me a lot more sympathetic towards their situation. Claire was in a really vulnerable position emotionally and also reasonably younger and less mature than him, and he knew that. What he did was manipulative and I’m glad that Claire and Billy were finally allowed to be together and have some peace. I don’t agree with Billy’s decision to keep everything he sacrificed for Scarlet to himself. However, I understand how hard it must have been for him to see her with someone else and wanting her to choose him of her own free will. Scarlet had an idea in her mind of what Ben was like, and I’m sure Billy didn’t want to be the one that burst his bubble. I appreciated the open communication there was between Billy and Scarlet while they were having unprotected sex. It’s clear that they have both made a mutually consensual decision and that that if Scarlet were to get pregnant, they would both be fine with that. The explanation behind Billy’s goat tattoo is also the best and I’m sure it became a running joke in their marriage.
The strongest point for this series was the family dynamics and how much all of the brothers love and support each other. Billy’s siblings know how much he sacrificed for them and just want him to be happy, and they do everything in their power to make that happen while also maintaining a lighthearted teasing attitude towards his pursuit of happiness. I’m hoping I find more series like this because I’m a sucker for healthy familial relationships like this.
