I picked this book up because I am a military brat. I went to a few military run schools, but no actual military schools (but some seemed pretty close).


Sam is also a military brat. But she has this little problem: she can not turn down a dare. Even when it is to enter the Denmark Military as one of the first female students. It’s hard work, and dangerous, but Sam has the memory of one brother pushing her, and the other brother pushing her away. Home life is not any better. It will take guts and determination to get to the end of the semester, and only Sam will be able to determine if it is worth it.


This book is a little G.I. Jane, a little Skulls, and a little any teen romance novel. Even though romance is forbidden. I like that the author focuses on Sam’s struggle, and not just Sam’s struggle with boys. Many characters are typical, and some so predictable it’s boring. Overall it’s a nice read, not too weighty, but not so fluffy. I am glad it’s a stand alone, as I would not read any sequels.
