Eleanor & Park
by Rainbow Rowell
This book is a heartwarming and fun romance about a girl named Eleanor who is ‘quirky’ (please don’t cringe lol), silly, and not the prettiest soul on the planet. And a boy named Park, a Korean boy who’s kind of a geek, and is very what did I say. . .geeky?
The story starts with one of our main characters Eleanor. She is the new girl, and a little over weight, and again not the prettiest specimen in the world, and has nowhere to sit on the bus.
Park miraculously shares his seat with her, and the two over time bond over mix tapes (is that right? I think it is?…) and comics.
They start a friendship, but it quickly becomes more. Their are many complications in their romance (including Eleanor’s dickhead father) but it was so damn sweet.
At the end, I was crying like the little baby I am. I feel like this is a coming of age story (kinda actually I’m not sure, I’m not very educated lmao), and a very sweet and heartwarming romance and tight nit friendship between two people who have hated each other, and come to love each other.
5/5 stars, totally recommend for the nerdy romance person who loves ‘hate’ (kinda) to love romances, friendship to love romances, friendship books, a person who loves books set in the 80’s or earlier time periods (me), or just your average nerdy romance.
