I went into this book knowing it would be vulnerable, emotional, and hopeful. I came out of this book feeling all warm and fuzzy and wishing I could be Scarlett’s best friend.

Scarlett Frye is the embodiment of an exhausted, burnt-out millennial and I related to her so hard. I may not have had as extreme a reaction to the stressors in my life, but I definitely have spent my fair share of time wanting to dig myself into a hole and never return. In fact, I regularly threaten to move into the woods behind my house and become a Bog Witch in order to escape the shackles of capitalism. I can’t blame her one bit for walking out on her publisher, but I cannot say I’d have been able to walk out on Ryan Whitlock and his slvtty little glasses.

We all love a man who knows how to yearn, and Ryan has earned his PhD in Yearnalism. This man is unbelievably down bad for Scarlett, and not even time, distance, and the ghosting of a lifetime can change that. He also isn’t perfect. He saw Scarlett’s struggles, but was too young to understand what she truly needed in order to heal and recover from her immense burnout and deepening depression. He did what he thought was right, but in the end it wasn’t the move.

Scarlett and Ryan working together to help her find balance in doing the work they both love while simultaneously trying to find their way back to one another was raw, vulnerable, and messy. It was also exciting, heartwarming, and full of witty banter. Seriously, I love these two so much it is probably unhealthy.

This is an achingly beautiful story, and I hope you will take the time to read it and see that you are strong enough 🖤
