This was a great setup that didn't quite deliver the immersion into the school setting that I wanted - the friendships felt inevitable, the classes incidental, and the main character was never challenged by anyone else's skills at all, which was annoying. I felt like the pacing was sometimes off and the romance seemed shallow. I was SO annoyed with the constant repetition of the protagonist's special in-world curse. The ending was crazy!
