camillou 's review for:
The Land I Lost
by Sarah Rees Brennan, Cassandra Clare
— 5 stars —
My favorite so far. It has more than what I expected and wanted.
It was more dark than I imagined (trigger warning for sex trafficking, slavery, and abandonment) action packed, but there were also some funny moments and it was overall really touching.
Some of the things I loved, among others:
- The glimpse into the life of Alec and Magnus with little Max was the best. I love Max, he's adorable!
- Lily! Her story was heartbreaking. I really liked to see how she looked up to Raphael, how he mattered to her. That was touching. I hope we will see her more in the future! She also has the best nicknames for Jem/Brother Zachariah and I kept asking for more (by the way, Tessa asking for more nicknames was the best).
- Speaking of Tessa, I loved seeing her doing "real" magic, and not using only her shapeshifting abilities. Jem using his Silent Brothers tricks as also a really good surprise, and I really like that. And, overall, any Jessa moment pulled the right strings. I love them so much!
- I cannot mention Jessa without mentioning Will as well. I love him to pieces and whenever I see his name, I can't help but smile (and shed a few tears at the same time. Classic)
- On a similar note, I loved every little mention of parabatai, and also of Jace. *heart-eyes*
- We got new informations on the Lost Herondale and I loved that. I'm really intrigued.
- Rafe is just so cute, adorable, and his story was so touching.
- Robert/Alec: maybe I ended up in tears.
It got me even more excited for the [b:The Red Scrolls of Magic|30295312|The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses, #1)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1528915777s/30295312.jpg|50775355]! (but I'm sorry, the cover... I don't like it. It feels cheap and it also bugs me that it doesn't match the other series...)
