Prosopagnosia
by Sònia Hernández
reflective
slow-paced
I was drawn in by the first part of the blurb, a young girl obsessed with ‘ugly things’ and with staring at herself in the mirror until she can no longer recognise her face. Sadly there are mainly only 20 pages out of 128 dedicated to this plotline; the rest is dedicated to her mother, a journalist and an artist.
I found the narrative a bit repetitive and not very exciting. I also found the mother’s constant references to her weight to be grating. Not to mention the young girl’s distasteful attitude towards disability, although that can be more put down to a young arrogant character who is meant to come across as distasteful. The weight issues seemed more like a judgement.

Graphic: Ableism, Body shaming, Fatphobia
