Remnants of Magic
by Alicia R. Chapin
This novel has a fantastic range of personality types when it comes to characteristics and a reader can truly get lost in the settings and the variety of environments the travelling group makes their way to.
The characters are written so you can truly get behind them and the magical element of the novel isn't so unbelievable that you can't suspend your reality. The romance slow burn is also TOP TIER. The novel drew me in right from the start.
To me, despite being lost in the story one of the main drawbacks of this novel was the lack of inclusive characters and depiction of women.
The protagonists breasts are indeed described as 'humble ' twice (Shakira eat your heart out) and all women are praised for their beautiful porcelain skin and slender Curves. There are no characters of colour and no characters who aren't cishet- even creatures. I'm very hopeful for more diversity in volume 2, as it felt a bit jarring travelling in diverse places with a lack of diversity.
This was kindly gifted to me as part of a book tour for an honest review. Thank you!
