An enjoyable, light read, the same as Tamora Pierce’s other works. The white savior thing going on here was rather off-putting, whether intentional or not. Yes, Aly has a special skill set in addition to the backing of a god, but to see the native people just acquiesce to everything she says and never have anything to teach her or any special input or insight, that was all very frustrating and something I noticed right from the start.
