Ya'll this was such a cute ass YA contemporary featuring one of my favorite tropes, fake dating. I do think some of the situations we improperly resolved but with these characters being in high school, that is to be expected in a sense. I appreciate the topics discussed within the story, including a parent making a mistake... I just don't believeinfidelity is a "mistake" that I would be willing to forgive so easily. Especially the hotel scene?? Like I'm sorry you invited your mf mistress to an event you knew your family would be attending?!?! I mean what the actual f*ck was going through this "man's" brain??!
This book discussed the grief that comes with the loss of relationship with a parent. I don't see this featured in YA literature much, if at all, which I thought was important for the young adult audience to see. There is a side character that briefly discusses still discovering their sexuality, which I think is yet another important topic featured in YA lit.
Anyway, aside from the drama provided by the love interests family, I thought the romance developing from fake dating was really sweet.
**I recommend for fans of Jenny Han & Kasie West**
