Like Mother, Like Daughter
by Kimberly McCreight
Oooh this book had surprises galore. I loved it! It was almost instantly captivating and I loved the alternating POVs of before and after the disappeared, with journal entries and transcripts smattered in along the way. I could feel the hair on my arms tingle a few times, and loved all the shocking twists. Kat is a fixer with a conscience which made her easy to like, and is also trying to navigate a tough relationship with her daughter. As a parent (albeit of much younger kids) I could so relate and was drawn to her descriptions of the many obstacles of parenting and how strong the need is to protect your child no matter what. Both mother and daughter had many ah-ha moments in their relationship as they learned more about each other, even thought under these terrible circumstances. I loved how this was written and how it lead the reader to a shocking ending.
