From Vixen 2 Diva
by Marlon Mccaulsky
Ooohhh I absolutely loved this novel. I think Mccaulsky did a fabulous depicting the lives of Kane and Beata. I can honestly say that outside of K'wan I really don't read any urban lit novels by male writers simply because I find that often they are not well written. But I have to admit that I was blown away by Mccaulsky's ability to keep my attention throughout the novel. Readers meet the drop dead gorgeous Beata Douglas when she's a 14 year old lovesick puppy and Mccaulsky takes us through her adolescent years into a relationship with a dangerous man (Roc), onto her success as a sexy, cutthroat video vixen which catapults her into her life as a successful singer-songwriter who captures the affection of Hip-Hop's hottest gangster rapper, Kane. I appreciate that Mccaulsky tells the story of a troubled young woman without resorting to the typical storyline we read in novels by Vicki Stringer, Wahida Clarke, Allison Hobbs, and even Erick S. Gray. There is something different about this book that is refreshing and shows where Hip-Hop/street/urban literature can go if these writers would simply write books and NOT set out to create these elaborate plots that piece together like screenplays. I look forward to reading more of Mccaulsky's work in the future. "From Vixen 2 Diva" does not disappoint.
