There's Someone Inside Your House
by Stephanie Perkins
If you are a fan of Scream, you are going to like this book. It delivered exactly what was wanted when it was started. It was a bloody mess from beginning to end. It had a trope and it stuck to it, even if it did steal an opening scene from the aforementioned movie. Makani has ben banished to her grandmother's house in Nebraska. Bye by Hawaii beaches, hello small town life. Life is boring and mundane, just one more year to graduate and adventure can begin. But you have to live long enough to graduate. After someone murders the most popular girl in school, the town greeves, and everyone thinks “This can't happen here”. Until it keeps happening. But there seem to be no rhyme or reason to who is picked to die. The only constant is that they all attend the local high school. This book is bloody fun. It’s the right mix of horror, mystery, and teen mush to keep a reader flipping pages to finish in a day. This would work well as a teen horror movie, or to make the next season of the Scream TV show. The deaths are gruesome, and the author does a bang up (pun intended) job of describing the grizzly crimes. A fun read that was totally unexpected from a YA romance writer.
