Iron Flame
by Rebecca Yarros
JFC, Rebecca. I think a lot of the first book’s problems weren’t as apparent because we had an active romance. Somehow this book was 623 pages of nothing, yet too many things happened. Things happened every paragraph. We were always on red alert all the time. I could not take a breath and get my bearings and yet I was bored enough to take over a month to read this when it should have taken me a week tops.
Some super unfortunate character assassination of both Violet and Xaden. Miscommunication trope galore and a totally unnecessary bitchy other woman. Some people died again before their potential had been fully realized. One dimensional villains. Another cheap, unearned cliffhanger ending.
Honestly reading this book felt like reading someone’s zero draft or super rough first draft. I can’t believe Red Tower set this loose upon the world in the state it was in. What wasted potential.
