Bride
by Ali Hazelwood
I love everything Ali Hazelwood writes and Bride is no exception. I will say that I was a little aprehesive when she announced she was writing a paranormal romance, specifically a werewolf/vampire romance, because that's not really my thing at all. However, I love her writing so much that I thought, why not? I'm so glad I did because this was SO GOOD! I feel like this is a more refined, better written adult version of Twlight and I'm obssessed. This was so HOT and the sexual tension was off the charts. These species are bitter rivals and do not like each other, to the point where they are basically at war with each other and have been for many years. So, it's an incredibly big deal when Misery, your resident vampire who had been living amoung humans and wanted no part of this feud, is forced to marry Lowe, the Alpha werewolf, in order to attempt to broker peace between the vampires and the werewolves. Yes, it's an arranged marriage but it's truly so much more than that. The fate of their now intertwined worlds is at risk and Misery is also looking for her missing best friend, Serena, who is rumored to have been taken by the werewolves. I really loved this book because it's not just about the romance aspect, but there is a great plot with a lot of mystery and suspense. There's also a twist towards the end that I NEVER saw coming! I think one of my favorite things about Misery and Lowe is the fact that they never tried to change each other. They just cared about one another, and that included their very significant differences. They worked hard to understand each other and make accomodations and thoroughly acknowledged that although they were different, the love they had would overcome these obstacles and they would make it work. And every time Lowe called Misery his "wife? Okay, YES. I loved this book and while it may not be everyone's cup of tea, I truly hope Ali Hazelwood writes more within this world (PLEASE GIVE US SERENA AND KEON'S STORY!) or paranormal romance in general because it's amazing.
