blairconrad 's review for:
Alif the Unseen
by G. Willow Wilson
Mixed, but ultimately did a lot less for me than for other readers. Had I not known it, I would not have believed this was produced by the same mind that created the second-best Marvel hero of recent years.
Alif was incredibly unlikable, and barely became less so throughout the book. The convert was the author, and I didn't really enjoy it.
I actually quite liked some of the mythology, but it wasn't enough to save the "real world" goings-on, especially the computery jargon (which I'm usually willing to give a slight pass if the story is good enough) which was so ridiculous it wasn't to be believed.
I kind of liked Vikram, and Dina was a delight, even if.
