Pestilence
by Laura Thalassa
3.25 stars? 3.5 stars?
This book was bland.
There was no emotion, no description, no anything really except for how fucking beautiful Pestilence was. Like, stop talking about how he looks, we get it, every second page. As he’s shooting you with arrows and dragging you behind a horse “oh, but he’s so otherworldly and pretty” and excuse me while I puke; grow a spine, woman.
Honestly, aside from the zero emotional backing to this story (like millions are dying, there should be something), Sara was a terrible character. She wasn’t funny (like she tried too hard, you know?) and she was literally stupid. Even the spice wasn’t spicing for me, it was also bland.
Don’t get me started on the ending.Pestilence is all like “It’s my purpose” and then Sara’s like “Gross, bye” and he’s all like “Okay, I’m a changed man, let’s have babies.” Sigh. No development, no EMOTION, no depth, and no discernible plot with a slightly believable or interesting storyline. Sigh.
I really like the 4 horsemen trope, the harbingers of the apocalypse stories, but no, not this.
Yeah, there were some funny parts, but they didn’t make up for the shallowness that was this book. Onto book 2 I guess, since not only do I have special editions of these books, but I also have ARCs of books 2-4. Hopefully, one horsemen will stand out and it better be Death cuz he’s my favourite horsemen, just saying.
