A Beautiful Corpse by Christi Daugherty, Sophie Amoss
2.0

This is the second book in the Harper Mcclain series, I really enjoyed the first book, so I couldn’t wait to pick this up. This book was very disappointing. The writing was not very good; it could have gone through another round of edits. In the first book, Harper was a reporter who was determined to find out the truth, unfortunately, in the second book, Harper wasn’t as smart as the previous.

I thought it was interesting that the break-ins from the last book were expanded upon, but she ended the book on such a cliffhanger. Considering that Harper is a reporter, it just surprised me that she was fine listening to a stranger who has been breaking into her apartment and car for months. But she couldn’t do research herself to figure out what was happening. This book also had way too many coincidences.

But it also didn’t have enough of a balance with Harper’s personal life and the mystery. It was almost like the mystery was a backdrop to Harper’s poor life decisions. I won’t be continuing the series, based on the quality of this book.
