The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton
4.0

The Queens of Innis Lear is an adult fantasy standalone, and is a retelling of King Lear by Shakespeare.

Personally, I loved this. There were so many elements that I enjoyed. The magic system was simple in nature but translated so wonderfully on paper. The characters were soo well written!! My favourite thing about this book, was the STUNNING writing style. Tessa Gratton has a beautiful way with words, each sentence felt like magic. I'm honestly obsessed with the poetic, lyrical writing. This was emotional, diverse, full of depth with amazingly written multi-dimensional characters.

Although it was beautifully written, it was VERY slow paced. In fact, hardly anything happens. I didn't really mind this, because the book was so immersive and atmospheric that the lack of action didn't bother me. But I know this will definitely bore some people.

If you're someone who likes their fantasy books to be full of action and epic battle scenes, then maybe give this one a skip. But if you're a fan of family drama, a LOT of politics, stunning and poetic writing style and very morally grey characters, then definitely give it a try!!
